The Day of the Dead, celebrated in Mexico, is perhaps the most well-known Latin American celebration  with indigenous roots.  Students in Eighth grade watched two depictions of the holiday–one from a documentary filmed in a rural part of Mexico and one from a segment produced for the Travel Channel.  Students analyzed the different points of view represented in the two segments.  They discussed how cultural celebrations appear different depending on whether you take an insider’s or an outsider’s perspective.
