Students in Octavo and Spanish I used the word cloud generator Wordle to thematically organize the vocabulary that they needed to know for our midterm exam. Some students chose to make giant word clouds of all terms so they could see if they could recognize a word out of context. Other students grouped words according to thematic categories or grammar patterns. Above is one student’s Wordle illustrating indirect object pronouns and the Spanish verb gustar.
As part of our review for the midterm exam, students in Español I created their own country. The project required them to draw a map of their country, create a national costume, a national currency and a flag. Students then videotaped a weather report of their country where they practiced weather-related vocabulary in an authentic context.
